Plums make for a very delicious and unique juice thanks to their tart skins and sweet flesh.

In this post I’ll show you two amazing ways to enjoy the juice of this nutritious fruit!

The first juice is a simple and pure plum juice.

Made from nothing but fresh plums and a little bit of lemon (the lemon helps the juice stay fresh for longer).

I also include a recipe for an autumn harvest juice (pictured) which includes plums and some seasonal veggies like beets and carrots.

The harvest juice is a delicious way to add a boost of extra vitamins and minerals in the juice while reducing the amount of carbs and natural sugars found in the pure plum juice!

Plum Juice Vs. Prune Juice

Prunes are made from certain varieties of plums that have been dried. Similar to the way raisins are made from grapes.

You can make juice from either the dried prunes or the fresh plums, but the process varies slightly.

Prune juice is made by boiling the dry prunes to rehydrate them, then extracting the juice.

On the other hand, plum juice is made by directly extracting the liquids from the juicy plums with no need to boil or rehydrate.

I prefer plum juice over prune juice for its fresher taste and because the boiling process can destroy some of the more delicate nutrients in the fruits.

How To Make Plum Juice

1. Wash & Prep Produce

Wash and dry all fresh produce and cut the plums in half to remove the pit.

2. Blend Or Juice Plums

If you are using a blender, blend all of the ingredients along with the ice and water until liquefied.

Otherwise use a cold-pressed juicer to extract the juice.

Fresh Tip: If blending, you’ll need a high speed blender to get a good yield out of your juice. My top rated blender is this Vitamix, but the Vitamix E310 and E320 are also great for juicing and more affordable.

3. Strain Juice

*Optional: If you use a blender you can strain the mixture through a nut milk bag to separate the pulp for a true “pressed juice” consistency and texture.

How long Does Plum Juice Last?

Freshly made plum juice can be stored for up to 2-3 days in optimal conditions.

As with any pressed juice, it will begin to oxidize (the same process that turns apples brown) as soon as it is made.

Contact with sunlight or oxygen will speed up this degradation process so it is recommended to refrigerate your juice in an airtight container filled completely full with juice.

I like to store my fresh juices in these 6-pack of glass bottles from Amazon (bottle pictured below).

What Is Plum Juice Good For?

Plums are a nutritious fruit with a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Juicing is the perfect way to concentrate the nutrients from a large amount of plums into one easy to drink refreshing glass!

Here’s a look at some potential benefits from drinking plum juice:

Plum Juice Benefits

  • Relieves Constipation: Plum juice contains a natural laxative known as sorbitol and they have been shown to be a great addition to diets aimed at treating constipation. [1]
  • Heart Health: Studies have shown that drinking plum juice can significantly lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels which can have a positive impact on heart health. [2] These benefits are in part due to the antioxidants in plums.
  • Regulate Blood Sugar: Plums help regulate blood sugar and may even help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes thanks to their ability to increase levels of the hormone adiponectin. [3]
