How To Make French Toast With Tortillas
- For the best French toast recipe made with tortillas start with the eggs. Whisk up the eggs, egg whites, and milk together into a creamy batter.
- Add banana-flavored whey powder to the batter, whisk through, and set the batter aside. Put the banana in a bowl and mash it so it turns into a banana puree. Set the banana puree aside as well.
- Immerse a tortilla into the egg batter and coat both sides of the tortilla. Let the tortilla soak up the batter.
- Preheat a skillet and cook the tortilla in a medium to hot pan. If you use a non-stick pan, you do not need a baking product.
- Take the baked tortilla French toast out of the pan. Let it cool slightly before spreading the homemade Nutella on the tortilla.
- Bake the remaining three tortillas the same way.
- Put a couple of tablespoons of the banana puree on the baked tortilla and fold it. Sprinkle some chocolate whey powder (or icing sugar) on top. Some blueberries to decorate and serve immediately.
- As it is high in protein, I include protein powder as one of the ingredients. Because the French toast tortilla has a banana filling, I chose banana flavor protein.
How To Customize French Toast Tortillas
You can customize these high-protein French toast tortillas to your liking. Some suggestions to use instead of (homemade) Nutella:
- Strawberry jam
- Blackberry Jam
- Blueberry jam
- Peanut butter and Jelly
- Maple or Apple syrup
Not a lover of bananas? No worries the options are endless:
- Strawberries
- Apple
- Pear
- Apricot
- Peaches
- Pineapple
- Kiwi
Easy High-protein Breakfast Recipe
If you work out regularly or lift weights you know how important protein is for muscle development and recovery. These high-protein French toast with tortillas fit in perfectly. They contain a lot of protein sources, so great fuel for a pre-, or post-workout meal.
I’ve been working out and lifting weights for several years now but only recently understood how important it is to fuel muscle with protein.
Fortunately lifting is not mandatory for this recipe. If you like French toast, fruit, and banana then this recipe is perfect for you just as well.
These high-protein French toast tortillas are a cross between French toast and crepe pancakes. It is so much fun to take a classic and turn it into something new and delicious maybe even a future classic.
In some way, it takes me back to my youth when my mom would make French toast (we call them wentelteefjes).
That way we had a nutritious meal with a limited number of ingredients and also very cheap. With stale bread, a couple of eggs, and milk we could have lunch for three easily.
