New to amigurumi

If you’re new to amigurumi, you’re in for a treat! Amigurumi, which originated in Japan, involves the art of crocheting or knitting small stuffed dolls. Don’t let its exotic origin intimidate you. The essence of amigurumi lies in its simplicity, with the single crochet stitch being the most commonly used. So, whether you’re crocheting a cube bunny or a bunny lovey, the single crochet stitch has got you covered.

The good news is that the crochet no-sew bunny pattern I am sharing with you is beginner-friendly.

For the free rabbit pattern, the two most common stitches we’ll be using are the single crochet stitch (sc) and the slip stitch (sl st). Take a look at the table below for a brief overview:

Other techniques and tricks for stuffies

The trick is to crochet tightly to keep the stuffing from peeking out. Invisible increases and decreases help shape the bunny smoothly, and the magic ring ensures a tight center. And let’s not forget the importance of stitch markers in keeping track of your rounds.

No-sew bunny for beginners to amigurumi

If you’re just starting out with amigurumi, the no-sew method is a game-changer. It involves crocheting the entire bunny in one piece, eliminating the need for sewing separate pieces together.

The result? A seamless, adorable rabbit amigurumi that you’d be proud to show off.

The no-sew technique uses basic stitches like single crochet and slip stitch, making it beginner-friendly.

With this method, we will seamlessly integrate the bunny’s various parts, such as the hands, feet, and ears, into the main body and head while we crochet. This approach allows for a more cohesive and natural look, making your bunny amigurumi appear as one whole piece rather than separate parts stitched together.

Choosing the Best Yarn

Choosing the right yarn is key to a successful amigurumi project. While most bunny patterns recommend using worsted-weight yarn for its versatility, the texture of your bunny ultimately depends on the type of yarn you pick. Here are some options:

  • For a soft, cuddly bunny, velvet yarn is your best bet.
  • Wool yarn is the way to go if you’re aiming for a fluffier look.
  • Cotton yarn is ideal for showing stitch definition.

Now is good to mention that if you use different yarn for your stuffy, your finished size will change. Using a DK or worsted yarn weight will make your toy smaller. If you use the worsted weight and hold it double, your amigurumi will turn near the size of the bunny I am sharing with you today.

The Right Hook for crochet plushies

Choosing the right hook is just as important as picking the perfect yarn. When making amigurumi bunnies, it’s best to use a hook size that’s one or two sizes smaller than usual. This results in tighter stitches that keep the stuffing from showing through.

Embellishing with Details

Once you have created the body, head, and ears of yourseamless crochet bunny, it’s time to add personalized touches and details! Embellishing your bunny with unique accessories can make it even more special and one-of-a-kind. Here are someideas to get you started.

Bows

Adding a cute bow to your bunny’s head or ear can instantly give it an adorable touch. There are many ways to create bows using different yarn colors and textures. You can make a simple double-loop bow or experiment with more complex designs.

Flowers

Another way to add some fun and flair to your bunny is by attaching a crochet flower. These look great on the ear or can even be used to create small bouquets the bunny is holding. You can choose from a variety of flower patterns and colors to create different effects.

Scarf

Keep your bunny cozy by crocheting a tiny scarf. You can use a similar color to the bunny’s fur or go wild with a bright and bold hue.

No time to crochet now, save it to your Pinterest board and crochet it later.

Overall pattern notes

The pattern is worked in continuous rounds, meaning that we will not join the rounds at the end. That’s why using a stitch marker to indicate your first st will help to track your rounds and stitches.

There are different velvet yarn options which are different weights. For example, the Premier yarn Parfait Chunky and Hobbii Baby Snuggle are the same weight. So, the final look will be the same. But if you use the Go Handmade Boheme velvet double, it is 100g/ 140m, making it a little thinner than the other two options. Said, that way maybe you will need to adjust the hook size from 5 mm to 4.5.

My suggestion is to try and see if you like the overall feeling and look of the fabric or not. Then, continue crocheting the rabbit plushie.

Materials:

  • Super bulky weight yarn- Chenille/velvet yarn-Premier yarn Parfait Chunky 100% polyester, 100 g, 120 m, two balls of mint color

  • tapestry needle
  • safety eyes 14 mm ( a pair )
  • stitch marker ( optional )

Crochet bunny’s ears (make 2)

You can crochet the bunny ears using a single crochet stitch. To make it like mine, we will use hdc stitch. But when you make the first yarn over, you will make yarn under the hook and then proceed to finish the half double crochet stitch. Also, when you work the rounds, you will work in the space between the two stitches. The pattern is written with SC-single crochet! Just work HDC with yarn under instead of the SC and follow the pattern.

For those who would like to add more texture to the ears, the HDC stitch is a better option than the SC stitch.

How to form the face and eyes for amigurumi bunny:

The final step in the creation process is adding character to your bunny with facial features. A few stitches can transform your crochet bunny from a stuffed toy to a bunny with personality. Embroidered eyes, a cute little nose, and a happy smile can give your bunny a character of its own.
